Prayer and Peace

On June 25th 2021 (Parsee Roj) marked the sixth month anniversary of the passing away of our dear grandmother. On her Chamsi (Parsee name for the sixth month anniversary), two days of prayers were performed in Mumbai, Toronto and Hong Kong by the dasturjis. Prayers were also held by her siblings in London. We are appreciative of all the priests and family members that performed the religious prayers over the two day period in remembrance of our grandmother.

Being fully aware of her excellent cooking skills, special efforts was made to offer her favorite dishes for the satum (prayers). Also, as it was the month of Bahman, all offerings were vegetarian and fish or prawn. The dishes prepared varied from prawn saas, prawn kebabs, dhansak and rice, doodh pak (rice pudding), malido puri and much more. Both Shirin and Adarvan also prepared dishes for the prayers. Adarvan prepared a delicious eggplant dish, his favorite dish that maijee would make for him to take to university. He loved the dish so much that he learnt to make the dish from his maijee and wrote the recipe down. We call the dish “Gool’s wagnu” as our grandma learnt the recipe from her friend Gool, but adapted the recipe to her style. Shirin prepared cookies as a sweet dish for the offering .

For her children and grand-children it was a time of reflection of the wonderful memories and time made and spent with her. While we miss her dearly, the passage of time has given us the chance to heal and to continue to honor her memory.
